I was making chemistry today and realized I’ve never shown my new darkroom and studio here in New Mexico. I’m still finishing the space. I just wrapped up this quarter of classes and I’ve got about two weeks before the next push starts, so I’m using the time to get everything ready for my Self-Directed Study project. Most of that work will happen right here — in the darkroom and the studio — photography, painting, maybe some clay, whatever the project demands.
Today I mixed a small batch of KI collodion, which means I’m getting close to starting a new run of experimental plates. This is the part I like most, honestly. When the space is almost ready, the chemistry is fresh, and you don’t quite know what the work is going to look like yet.
This room is still unfinished, but that’s probably the right time to show it. This is where the next phase of the work is going to happen.
